Build a Bear Workshop

Hannah's birthday was actually a month before we had her party, but she wanted to wait until her brother was home from Qatar so that he could come, turns out he had to work; but never mind... once at the party, I don't think she was too bothered!

People can't believe it when I say it, but it was actually our first venture into Build a Bear workshop, I don't know why, we just never dropped by, that is; until Hannah asked for a party there. She had heard so many of her friends and her cousin talking about it, the thing is... Now that we have gone, it's going to be a very regular thing, Hannah is always saying she needs new clothes for her bear! I told her since report cards come out this week, chances are, she'll earn herself a nice little trip there again, so I've already penciled in the Mall for Friday night!

Before I go any further, I will tell you that Build a Bear Workshop is 100% worth the experience and the money! Whether you're booking a party or just going in on your own with your child, (I mention money as each bear after you buy clothing is between $25 - $50 a bear, you also pay for each bear that the children invited to your party receive)

The first thing you do is pick out the "Shell" of your bear (Or Pony or other animal)

And if you've booked a party, you get a little song and dance to get your doll all ready for it's new life!
It's actually quite amusing to watch!

You then pick your heart that goes into your bear

Of course into your heart, goes your personality...
You lay your heart onto a flat computer screen and choose what you want to go into it. (It's pretend of course, but the kids love it!) If you have a party, your friends help you by saying what you're like (kind, smart, helpful etc.)

This next part is for parties only, the group of children sit in a circle and having previously chosen 2 hearts (one for their stuffed animal and one for the Birthday child's bear), the group kiss the extra heart and give it to the Birthday Child... It's so very precious.
The birthday child (my Hannah, on this occasion) gets to put all of the hearts into her bear. Her bear has 7 hearts in it. If you go on your own with your child, of course your bear will only have the one heart.
Kissing the heart...
After it was touched to their noses, and I seriously can't remember why the leader had the girls do that, but it's cute... and amusing :)

The Birthday girl was the first to have her bear stuffed, but after that, each girl took their turns having their bear stuffed.... The children get to help stuff their animals!

It's then time to give your new animal a (pretend) bath!

After they are all clean ...
It's time to name your bear.
You place it on another computer screen and type in your stuffed animals name
Hannah named her bear "Rosie"
Your bear gets it's very own birth certificate!

You can buy as many or as few doll accessories as you choose to, and there is no shortage or colors or styles or themes!

After the fun the girls all sang Happy Birthday to Hannah and we went to the Mall food court where I ordered ice cream and we had the cupcakes that we had brought, you can't actually have food in the store, unless it's one of the stores that have separate party rooms. We went to a smaller store.
After your experience at Build a Bear is over, your stuffed animal gets it's very own box to go home in.

Our party was held at Barton Creek Mall, but Build a Bear Workshops are all over the United States and online. If you're in the Austin, Texas area, I will tell you the staff at Barton Creek Build a Bear are phenomenal! If you want to book a party, you need to do so online. Hannah's party had a total of 7 girls (including herself), and it cost roughly $250. I think it was worth every penny!

It's been a week since we were there, and Hannah takes her bear EVERYWHERE. Rosie Bear even gets strapped into a car seat when we travel, and she is in Hannah's backpack for school every day. She even enjoys shopping...

My Princess had a wonderful time and she has the memory to last a lifetime!

  2. It looks like Hannah really enjoyed herself. I have to admit Lily likes to frequent Build a Bear and we have had a party there too. I agree it is well worth it, and if it's anyone's birthday young or old she always likes to make them a bear. Love Melanie xxx

  4. We have build-a-bear here too, Little Miss has her own bear plus a few items of clothing although we've never been to a party there.
Now we're home from holiday I've checked the calendar and very sadly won't be able to join you and the other bloggers in London
    :(
Number 1 son has a whole day visit to a university in Nottingham and it'll take us ages to get there and back on top of the day's schedule at the uni.
I hope I can join you next time, x

  7. Oh my our girls are going to get on so well. Dolly got Nala in Convent Garden after we went to see the lIon King for her 5th birthday. Chloe rabbit came from Edinburgh when Mike and I weekend-ed there for an anniversary... to say these bears have cost me more money than they are worth is preposterous. The joy that they bring to my little girls heart is amazing! She was an only child for 11 years and these guys were (still are a little) her best friends. They won't be given up for a long time to come... Keeping my almost teenager little for as long as I can xxx

  9. We've been to Build a Bear many times with Eleanor. She's 15 now and she still wants to go in the shop when we pass. I'm sorry I won't be able to meet up with you in London but I hope you have a fab time and I can't wait to hear all about it.

  11. You're such a good mom! This was a great idea for a party! Lexie attended one of these when she was 3 (the birthday girl was much older) and she loved making her bear so much that when I graduated from college the next year, she went back to make a bear just for me. :o)

Funny story - when I was pregnant with Lexie, my boyfriend and I went to Build A Bear to make her a bear...except, we were convinced she was a he. :o) So now Lexie has a bear named Lucas Toby in blue jean overalls instead of a more "girly" bear.
